Australian Community Media, with the Institute’s support, has engaged data journalist Lisa Cornish for a 12-month project to produce stories and interactive features to provide insights into national issues at a regional level.
Lisa Cornish is a freelance journalist, data scientist, geospatial analyst and visualisation expert. Her other clients have included the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, Australian National University and Tourism Research Australia.
Cornish will analyse open data from government and other sources with the aim of making those insights interesting and useful for the diverse regional audiences of ACM.
The stories will be published in a number of ACM titles, including The Canberra Times, Newcastle Herald, Illawarra Mercury, Border Mail, The Courier (Ballarat), Bendigo Advertiser, Central Western Daily (Orange) and The Examiner (Launceston).
Health services, the regional economy, business trends, real estate markets, environmental issues and government spending are among the subjects under consideration.
