Have a Go News is an independent newspaper that reports on issues important to older Western Australians.
Freelance journalists Lee Tate, Frank Smith, Josephine Allison, who are regular contributors to the newspaper, provided a variety of stories to help the readership through the initial lockdown.
A grant from the Institute allowed Have a Go News to commission more freelance journalists, including Brad Elborough and David Nicolson, to help the paper tell more public interest stories.
Editor Jennifer Merigan said the grant helped Have a Go News provide quality, relevant content to its audiences, despite decreasing advertising revenues.
“As an independent newspaper, the assistance from JNI made a huge difference to our survival and helped us continue to keep our journalists working and provide our readership with quality content,” she said.
