The Judith Neilson Institute and the Local and Independent News Association (LINA) have created a flood impact fund to support local and independent news organisations that have been financially affected by the recent floods.

Grants of up to $2,500 are available to organisations that have suffered financial losses, such as lost revenue from not being able to publish or expenses incurred from flood damage.

To be eligible for the grants, organisations must also be community focused, independently owned, working at a local level and covering public interest issues regularly.

Eligible news organisations can submit their applications through an online portal.

LINA was launched earlier this year by JNI and the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) in response to the challenges faced by the hyperlocal news industry.

The Association helps existing hyperlocal media to survive and grow, and encourages new hyperlocal media entrants by providing capacity-building support, expert advice and access to critical third-party services.
