Documenting Australia’s investigative journalism history

Funding for a new video series featuring investigative journalists

Democracy’s Watchdogs is a new series that charts the history of investigative journalism in Australia as told by current and former reporters.

In video interviews, journalist Bill Birnbauer captures the experiences of reporters whose work has led to royal commissions, public inquiries, court cases and justice for many.

Journalists Richard Baker, David Wilson, Adele Ferguson, Nick McKenzie and Andrew Rule are among those who feature in the series.

Their interviews offer a unique insight into the world of investigative journalism, including its challenges and triumphs.

The video profiles are an excellent education resource for both aspiring journalists — the interviews are available online, along with background resources and questions — and professional journalists.
